"I thought it was hilarious." Learning from Lasso.
📺The context Apple TV's "Ted Lasso" is back for its third and what is believed to be its final season. This season's first episode featured a fantastic lesson about letting go.
Coach Lasso is mocked and verbally attacked by Nate, his former assistant coach and now a manager of a rival team.
Rebecca, the owner of Lasso's club, demands Lasso fight back and go negative at Nate at an upcoming press conference. It is important to note that Rebecca's ex-husband, whom she despises, owns the rival team and is Nate's boss.
👉Go deeper Lasso defies the owner and, in a classic Ted Lasso move, publically laughs it off, praises Nate, and sincerely wishes him the best of luck; the media is stunned and his boss looks upset.
An interesting thing happens; the media loves it and, as the press conference goes on, he continues to take the high road.
Rebecca gets a text: "Way to let Ted be Ted!" She smiles and sighs. She realizes this wasn't about Nate and Ted; this was about her and her ex-husband.
💡Connect the dots Coach Lasso was doing what Rebecca continues to struggle with throughout the series - letting go, especially when it comes to things that affect her ego.
Rebecca's ego, not Ted, was most hurt by Nate's barbs and insults. Ted's decision to take the high road was a gentle nudge disguised as a press conference.
It's easy for Rebecca to stay or get dragged into the past; at some point, if she wants to be happy and have peace in her life, she will have to move on. She is only hurting herself and, in this case, could have hurt Ted and the team as well.
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned." - Buddhist saying
📢My BIG Takeaway I have to remind myself that if I want more joy, peace, and happiness in my life I often need to let things go and not take the bait when it comes to my ego - especially when all it is going to do is lead to a fight where there is no winner.
Question: What is ONE THING I can let go of RIGHT NOW.
Wow. This peace and happiness stuff can be difficult. Thank goodness for TV and shows like "Ted Lasso" to help make it easier.
I am curious: How will Ted handle his own struggles with letting go as the season moves on?
