"Shoutout...for bringing the energy!!!!" With some kindness wishes can come true. 📺The NFL invited special guests to announce various at its Draft last week.
Kyle Stickles from Ghent, New York stepped up to the podium to represent the New York Jets.
Stickles, age 13, battled bone cancer in his left tibia; he is in remission.
In addition to chemotherapy, he had some of the tibia bone removed and had to learn how to walk again.
👉Go deeper This was all made possible by a partnership between the NFL and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
While going through treatment Stickles said his wish was to announce the first pick for his favorite team, the Jets.
With New York bravado he approached the microphone and, when it was time to mention the Jets, he did so yelling their well-known team chant into the microphone. "J. E. T. S. Jets! Jets. Jets!"
💡Connect the dots This cost nothing to do. One simple yet powerful idea lit up the face of a teen and inspired fans across the country.
Patrick Mahomes, star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs was watching and tweeted "Shoutout...for bringing the energy!!!!"
The NFL also invited others to make announcements including those from the Special Olympics and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
📢My BIG Takeaway I need to remind myself that there are always simple ways to bring enormous joy to someone's life and that many times these acts COST NOTHING. Think about it. All the NFL did was have someone else read a name. Brilliant.
